CRCnet Waikato NetworkCRCnet is the first of three networks created by the WAND Group at Waikato University of the past three years. CRCnet connects nine remote schools and approximately 12 houses in a tree structured network. Most of the links are point-to-point so that performance can be maximised. Part of the success of the project so far can be attributed the willingness of the rural community to work with the group in developing there own networks. To date applications that have been trialled on the network include Internet access, video conferencing, video streaming of live events and off-site backups. In the coming months we plan to start looking at connecting the communities surrounding the schools connected to the network.
